The band, then a trio that also included Dan Peek, exploded onto the music scene in 1972 with the hit “A Horse With No Name.”

Since then, America has charted six certified gold and/or platinum albums, with its first greatest-hits collection, “History,” hitting 4 million in sales. Its awards included a Grammy for Best New Artist and two No. 1 singles (“A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair”).

Mr. Peek left the group in 1977.

America’s newest release, “Here and Now,” which includes studio and live music of the band’s past and present, was put together by contemporary producers Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and includes such guest artists as Ryan Adams, Ben Kweller, Jim James and Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), Ira Elliot and Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), Stephen Bishop and Mark Rozzo (Maplewood). more

Losing fires my motivation

Losing is always very hard to take, but I am still very proud of the way we raced and the way that we rose to the challenge that the Chinese set us in the heat two days before the final.

If I had the chance again I would not race any differently. We have learnt more about ourselves and our opposition than we would ever have hoped to if we had won.

More importantly, I feel like my motivation has just been turbo-charged. The challenge before us has now been so clearly laid out; I now know exactly what we will have to deal with in Beijing, rather than only being able to imagine what could or might happen.

Rabbi, imam, priest discuss their "painful verses"

The book marked a new approach in interfaith dialogue. While religious leaders have been meeting for decades, an upswing in contacts in recent years reflects a feeling they need to work even more closely to foster better understanding.

Bensheikh, head of the Higher Institute of Islamic Sciences in Marseille, stressed the book was “not a dialogue between institutions. It’s the work of three believers, that’s all.”

DON’T STOP AT BANALITIES

Meyer said he got the idea when members of his congregation asked how he could dialogue with Muslims when they had passages hostile to Jews in the Koran. “I knew I could find passages in Jewish texts that would make them shudder,” he said.

Simoens, professor of scripture at the Centre Sevres faculty of philosophy and Catholic theology in Paris, said there was a growing realisation among religions “that the dialogue should be true and not stop just at banalities.”

One of Islam’s “painful verses,” Bencheikh said, was the hadith “Kill him who changes his religion.” This saying of the Prophet Mohammed is used to outlaw apostasy in some Muslim states and, in a very few, to threaten ex-Muslims with death. more

The military has filed a complaint against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) before the Joint Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities following an attack by the rebel group in Basilan on Sunday.

Lt. Gen. Nelson Allaga, Western Mindanao Command chief, said the military strongly believes that the Moro rebels have colluded with al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf when they attacked a detachment of the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 8 in Barangay Tongbato in Ungkaya Pukan town.

Allaga said the two bodies recovered in the area belonged to Remie Indama, an Abu Sayyaf member, and Pathi Kabulot, an MILF member.
